Well, usually only because of very minor incompatabilities.  I think the
only "big" configure.in patch I did was in SSH-3, and even then the
unified diff, which fixes platform related problems as well, is less
than 180 lines.  The biggest 2.52 related changes were just fixing
AC_PREREQ() and nuking a hand-written test for 2.13.  I think the only
other related change was moving from a custom AC_SSH_BIGENDIAN macro to
the new standard AC_C_BIGENDIAN.

(most changes will likely be to nuke custom macros and use new standard macros)
