I've had build times of 8+ hours on an 1GHz Athlon, 512MB RAM, 
IWill 266 mobo.

That was a few OS re-installs ago and w/ FreeBSD ... but IIRC, putting
/tmp on a 128MB memory fs brought the time down to 2-3 hours.
