Subject: "stowing" packages

I noticed when I installed my packages that all
the executables went into /usr/pkg/bin. This is
alright for some packages but not for others
(like TeX and gs). What if there is a naming conflict,
and TeX overwrites a gs file?

Is it possible to redirect the install dir to say,
/usr/pkg/bin/gs etc and then stow that dir with
/usr/local/bin/stow? Has anyone considered adding
stow to the package tool chain?
