Press Conference About the Dangers of 
Dioxin Contamination in the Home

The Clean Water World Initiative (CWWI) in cooperation with the Sosei Cleaning Research Institute will hold a press conference this winter to present research results on in-home dioxin contamination.  CWWI and Sosei will also sponsor an international summit to alert researchers, policy leaders, and the general public to the serious danger now faced by consumers in a world awash with dioxin-laden products.  We call on all non-governmental organizations, specialists, and legislators to work with us in order to find solutions to the grave threat to public health posed by dioxin.

The summit will be convened this winter.  Its timing will be determined as soon as we have assessed the level of interest in this issue and the number of participants.

The purpose of the international summit will be to impress upon decision-leaders the breadth and severity of the dioxin threat.  Dioxin is released from fabric dyeworks, apparel manufacturing, cleaning plants, hair-care salons.  Dioxin is not just an industrial pollution problem; it is a grave issue facing each and every one of us in our daily lives.  This terrible poison is found in the clothing we wear, the bedding in which we sleep, in hair coloring and hair permanent wave compounds, and in dry cleaning chemicals.  The goal of our organization and of the summit is to make people aware of the seriousness of the problem and to begin concerted efforts toward its resolution.

Tens of thousands of non-profit organizations, researchers, and political leaders are active in a wide variety of specialized fields.  Whether we work in the areas of rain forest protection, water pollution, animal rights, the protection of species, global warming, CFC pollution, POPs and ozone depletion, our intense concern about the environment and about life on this planet are essentially the same.  Through international exchange and coordination of our efforts relating to the problem of dioxin contamination in the home, we believe we can create a worldwide movement for the betterment of the environment as a whole.

"Detection of Dioxin and Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) from Fabric, Dyeworks, Cleaning, Laundries and Hair-care salons"

  Dioxins are produced from chemical reaction of detergents, color, shampoo and perming solution.
  In the case of wearing a woman's suit on which we found 19 pg-TEQ/g of dioxin, you spend a day with exposed to as much as 8,200 pg-TEQ/suit dioxin. Moreover, almost all wear in your home are contaminated with dioxin and EDCs. The total volume of pollutants is enormous and seriously dangerous .
  Color, shampoo and perming solution used in hair-care salons initiate chemical reactions and produce as much as 320,000 pg-TEQ/person concentration of dioxin and as much as 690,000 $B&L(Bg/person of nonyl phenol, with which you have rubbed your hair and scalp. 30 % of these dioxin (96,000 pg-TEQ) and nonyl phenols (207,000 pg-TEQ) are absorbed into the human body. The rest, 70 % of dioxins and chemicals, are flow into drainage.
  Dioxin TDI (tolerable daily intake), the limit of taking amount per kilogram and per day that does not cause disease or disability, is 4 pg-TEQ/kg/day by Japanese standard. In the U.S., 0.01 pg-TEQ/kg/day has been set as Dioxin TDI. If 50-kg-person (around 92 lb) takes over 200 pg-TEQ/kg/day of dioxin, it will increase incidences of all the diseases such as cancer.
  Amount of dioxin contamination in the human body by clothes, hair-perm or hair-color is forecast to far exceed TDI. It turned out we have exposed ourselves to dioxin through unexpected daily sources of chemicals such as clothes we wear, textile fabrics surrounding us, hair-perm and hair-color we often do.
  We have been contaminated with dioxins and EDCs by using chemical daily necessities like detergents without knowing it, but we are contaminating our environment by using chemicals with awareness of it.

Our mission is filling up the earth with clean, beautiful, powerful water by eliminating hazardous chemicals such as detergents from our livings. To fulfill the mission, informing and educating people how to eliminate dangerous chemicals at home through our report news and lectures. We have not only pointed out environmental problems, but also provided the world with our technologies and collected information necessary to solve these problems. We hope that more people will participate in our movement for protecting the global environment to address and solve environmental problems, such as deforestation, water contamination, the extinction of species, warming and freon (chloro

Currently the name of the organization was changed from the Cosmos to the Clean Water World Initiative (CWWI). The new name was given by our friend, Dr. Lim Chong Keat, who was a collaborator and close friend of Mr. Richard Buckminster Fuller.
About the founder and the history of CWWI
Mr. Toshiharu Fukai, the founder of the CWWI, saw his hotel sewerage foaming detergent flowing into the neighboring river and killing fishes in 15 years ago. He became aware of the detergent's toxicity and of the crisis in the global environment.  He deliberated on what should be the highest priority to solve the environmental problems of the earth.  He found that a variety of environmental problems were caused by the contamination of water, which consequently contaminate all animals, plants, microorganisms and human beings. Mr. Fukai quit his own businesses, and organized a non-governmental organization (NGO) named Cosmos to launch an anti-detergent movement and a pro-soap movement.  Soon after, he became aware of soap's toxicity.  Thus, he started to develop an anti-soap, anti-detergent movement.  However, people did not accepted his movement because the non-use of soap nor detergent means inconvenient and unclean living.
He started not only focus on claiming problems but also on finding the solutions for problems.  Thus, he spent all his money and time to develop some safe alternatives to detergents.
Mr. Fukai studies about soap and detergent and tried to develop safe, powerful earth-friendly, eatable soap. Finally he found soap or detergent itself do not clean anything, the key of cleaning is the solvent, Water. In the past, people washed clothes or tableware or anything with just water from rivers or wells without soap. He restarted his study and developing what and how to make water powerful. After several trials and fails, he invented a water refiner which produce powerful water like people used have many years ago.  This water that can be used to wash anything without detergent was named "Sosei water".  He and the Cosmos established a company called Sosei World Co., Ltd.  In 1995 and launched activities to spread Sosei water makers to solve a variety of environmental problems.
The Cosmos and Mr. Fukai introduced Sosei Water to Cleaners, suggesting that they could clean garments without detergent. At that time dry cleaning was the most popular and Sosei Water cleaning was not accepted. Dry cleaners did not realize the toxicity of dry solvent and they believed dry cleaning bring much benefit to them than wet cleaning. So, Sosei World started selling the machine to households.
There need no time to be questioned by Sosei Water users "Is the water with a cleaning power dangerous to the human body?"  Nowadays, people have been getting accustom to poor water. We knew that the power charged water is healthy but researches were started on the effects of "Sosei water" on human health.
In 1997, Dr. Mitsuoka, professor in Tokyo University, who discovered bacillus bifidus in the intestine, proved that Sosei Water had a healing effect on intestinal disorders. He announced this Sosei Water effect in a press conference.  The results of other research have been published. For example, a research found that after drinking Sosei Water for 5 weeks, sperm count was increased by 2.5 times than before. Another research valued  that Sosei Water could protect human bodies from electromagnetic radiation.  It was also proved that Sosei Water contains an abundance of active hydrogen that neutralizes active oxygen by a professor in Kyushu University.
The Cosmos and Sosei World help people to find healthy and easy way of living. Sosei Water Machine provide Sosei Water to every tap in the house. The Sosei Water Machines have been sold under the promises that "Sosei Water can not be combined with any toxic chemicals and that Sosei World take all of them out from the house. Now, more than 1,000 households in Japan are using Sosei Water Makers to enjoy chemical free life. 
People do not easily accept any environmental movement, because it often drives them into inconvenient, patient way of living. However, the use of Sosei Water will make people's life more comfortable and contribute to their living environment than chemical one.
In 1997, the Sosei Cleaning Institute was founded by the Cosmos and Sosei World, establishing proprietary cleaning technology to wash anything with using no chemicals. This institute has conducted researches on the chemical contamination of clothing.  These research revealed the actual dioxin/endocrine disrupter contamination in a wide range of areas including new clothes, cleaning services, home laundries, hair -care chemicals and so on. They resulted in the discovery of unknown dioxin sources.
