Don't you think that you should add support for this into our tools first,
before changing all the pkg names?

BTW, I have not seen much of a concensus on this, and given that we're
about to get ready for 1.4.2 and things are in shape for that right now,
you should either

 a) get this in BEFORE 1.4.2 is cut, or
 b) wait until after 1.4.2. 

The second solution may still annoy people who just installed 1.4.2, as
they'd have to update their pkg_* tools right after installing 1.4.2.
