Hello,

I think this change is the reason that teTeX seems broken now. When
running make or make install awk reports a syntax error in the expression
where the script tries to extract the MD5-checksum from the md5-file.
Perhaps awk can't cope with long strings as the teTeX-md5-file includes.

It would be nice if this change could be reverted or changed so it works
again.
