And by pppoe(4). But I don't think it is exported in a way it can be
used for PPPoA other than by pppoe(4).

It would be really cool to have PPPoA support in the kernel. Anybody
got hardware or software which could be used to test such a driver?
Bringing my DSL down for that purpose is not an option unfortunately
because my wife always complains when Internet access doesn't work. :-}
