    I believe cisco holds patents on the concept behind using a
virtual mac address shared between multiple systems to provide a
single service.  Don't quote me on the exact language or consequences,
but I believe the reasonably binary, correct statement is "yes, there
are some intellectual property issues behind vrrp".
