I think that's what the ppp.setup.tgz is, a tar-ed up set of someone's
files.

So you hear the modem dial, but then you don't hear any negotiation?
Sounds like either you have entered the phone # wrong, or that the modem's
set to negotiate silently.

Another possability is that your chat script is wrong. The chat script
needs to be different depending on if your ISP uses pap/chap or normal
login.
