That's a step away from a shareable/read-only /.  That makes it a bad
thing.  8-)

e.g. with the Shark, we created a read-only shareable root partition
that you could boot multiple clients off of simultaneously.  being
able to support that, _especially_ when using diskless clients with
dhcp, is somewhat important.
