I buy that 5 (Solaris) is a resaonable default.  But if 1000 (IRIX) is
also a reasonable default, then surely so is whatever value the
sysadmin sets via sysctl?

If not, I'd settle for 1024 for the rest of this millenium.

Good question.  SOMAXCONN is not protected by #ifndef _XOPEN_SOURCE,
so it probably says something...
