Charles Hannum fixed gcc so that it would pack not only the inner parts, but
also the end of __attribute__((packed)) structures, and I added that attribute
to the two structures involved.

This should work in one or two supscans (I'm waiting for the release 
engineering team to pull the changes onto the release branch).
