That is right but the goal was to have a native bootloader triggered when another bootloader (grub..) is not present.
So both multiboot AND a native monoboot as a fallback (you don't have to install linux beforehand that way).

A good and specialized bootloader has its advantages to deal with difficult situations. But you know it already.
