Fwd: getting NetBSD 4.0 console on alix1c
The vendor says:
Sorry, no idea why the keyboard input
wouldn't work. The Winbond super I/O is
pretty generic...
this box runs on 5W of 12V DC. I have not tried
connecting serial, if I set serial console during
the install, how might I revert it to ps/2?

Subject: getting NetBSD 4.0 console on alix1c
Here are some technical notes, for the alix1c. If anyone has
a suggestion or wants to make a commit to smooth out the
experience, I'm happy to hear it!
Trying to get a 4.0 cdrom install on a PC Engines alix1c.
http://www.pcengines.ch/alix1c.htm
This system has:
a single PS/2 connector
vga
serial
two USB ports
network
audio
PCI, with a dual Gb intel network adapter
onboard cflash disk (512Mb)
onboard memory (256Mb)
I'm using a vga, ps/2 keyboard, 4.0_release with a USB cdrom.
Initially, the cdrom kernel would load and stop when it couldn't
find any root device.
After a bios update, I used the above instructions accept I had
problems mounting the cflash partition on a NetBSD box. After I
used dd to make the cflash freedos image, I put the cflash in a
mac to load the bios updates on it -- that was easy.
The system now boots into the kernel from the cdrom and starts
sysinst. However, while the numlock key toggles that led, no
keystrokes reach the installer.
I've tried the "consdev pc" boot option, and also using a usb
keyboard. Success! I'm able to use the installer when I use the
USB keyboard _and_ specify "consdev pc", this is also required for
the regular bootup (cdrom drive removed).
Below is the dmesg, any comments or questions about the hardware,
I'll do what I can to try them.
