Isn't this exactly the problem wscons faces when it needs to "attach
at" both wskbd and wsdisplay?

My own opinion - which of course should be given all the weight the
opinion of one not writing the code gets :) - is that it's time to bite
the bullet and design a way for devices to attach at multiple parents.
