I've noticed too that recent current kernel on VMWare uses 100% of
host cpu while guest is idle. 
top(1) on that kernel shows no significant cpu usages or interrupts.
The version of the kernel is 4.99.31.

I dunno this is a bug, but I find this happens after ad's commit on
Wed Aug 29 23:38:06 UTC 2007.
