surely log(9) has this anyway?

I would prefer to see levels of output under admin control, rather than
aprint_normal, aprint_naive etc..  actually, I find it annoying that the
driver can direct output away from my records. There has been a WARNING
right at the top of my boot messages for months now that I've been trying
to read but it doesn't show up in the dmesg.
