4.99.13 with slightly modified GENERIC_LAPTOP (added CGD and compat_30,
enabledapm and disabled acpi since too buggy for me on the IBM T22).
Intel 32-bit i686 900MHz laptop (not throttled down, BIOS set for full
speed, and not on battery).

I'm surprised that the sysctl case is faster for me than other results,
while it was the contrary for you :)  System and kernel were
compiled with flags -march-i686 -O2.
