Subject: lost input on serial consoles

I find that if I try to type commands at a serial console that is rapidly
printing, say, kernel debug messages, that some input characters are lost.
For example, if I type 'ifconfig ath0 down', but the shell reads 'ifconfg
ath0 down'. This is not at all what I expect. Perhaps there is a defect
in certain serial console drivers?

I expect a system to receive my console input just fine, no matter how
high the output rate, since the serial connection is bidirectional,
and there are separate transmit/receive buffers.

I have only observed this "lost input" problem on Soekris (i386)
boards and on an evbmips box with a 16x50-alike on the serial console.
Could this be a defect in NetBSD's driver for 16x50 consoles?
