and if you lose your journal, how confident are you that the rest of  
the file system is not also curdled?  You either trust the journal or  
you don't....

Journaling and softdep are kind of on opposite ends of the spectrum  
in terms of FS crash recovery...  Besides, softdep isn't something  
that would like to see become MORE complicated... I'd rather just get  
rid of it entirely by having a modernized file system.
