Are these actually PCMCIA ("16-bit") cards, and not CardBus ("32-bit") cards?  
(This should be easy to tell, as CardBus cards will have a gold-plated 
grounding connector on the top of the card near the connector, while PCMCIA 
cards will not.)  Does your machine support CardBus?
