I agree that CRC32 should serve well that purpose, without adding too
much of a burden on slow hardware...  As for weither this could be used
for security-critical tasks, I believe that it would be better to
cryptographically sign a kernel, and to verify this signature before
loading it, while if I understood properly this is to verify that the
kernel was properly loaded to RAM from the media?
