yes, after more though, I think a regular device entry in /dev may be
reasonable, as I think more will be needed (probably one for the virtual
block devices, at last), and I don't know yet if we want to be able
to tweak the permissions, or not. For now I'll go with a regular pseudo-device,
and an entry in /dev. This can easily be changed later if needed.
