Except apmd(8) is very much tied to the APM model, which is fairly 
limited when you look at the power management capabilities that other 
systems have today.

FWIW, powerd(8) could also support things like "AC adapter 
arrived/left" messages, and switch to a different power profile.  It 
could also do things like periodically poll battery life and 
temperature and adjust the power consumption of the system accordingly. 
  And there's no reason it couldn't do ALL of it with scripts.
