Thank you Tino, I did find that myself. But here's what it says:

  Download the MidiSport firmware loader

  Supported devices: MidiSport 1x1, 2x2, 4x4, 8x8, KeyStation,
  Oxygen, Radium, Uno.
(The MidiSport 2x4 doesn't require this loader.)

The Duo USB and the MidiSport 2x4 may actually work.
                                ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I like the writer's enthusiasm, there. :)

I'd like to know for sure if this 2x4 requires downloaded firmware
or not - so far my only response from M-Audio has been the usual
"we don't write drivers for Linux [sic] therefore we don't have to
document our own product" business, but maybe the plain direct
question whether their box needs a firmware download or not will get
a more appropriate response. :)
