the kern.hostid node is currently an "int", which means that if the
hostid that the kernel returns has the high bit set, it gets prints as
a negative number.  regardless of the fact that the hostid is largely
meaningless (wrt sign, not to those applications that care about its
value), perhaps it might make more sense for it to be printed as a hex
number, much like the output of the solaris hostid command?

anyone care?  or shall i just change it?
