I agree with you there.  But I would prefer, in particular, that it be
something like a per-filesystem function pointer (a vfs-level vfsop?),
even if there are only two functions that it ever calls, rather than
(say) something keying off MNT_LOCAL.

Not that what I prefer matters all that much, since I'm not the one
doing the work....
