Yah, platforms where changing them to non-inline functions is likely to 
be a win:

	* alpha
	* Xscale (has branch prediction that optimizes function calls
	  nicely)
	* mips
	* modern IA32 (Xeon, P-III, P-IV)

Platforms where it is likely to be a lose:

	* vax
	* m68k
	* ns32k
	* older IA32
