For the dynamic sizing thing: if you want to go ahead and add the
hooks into init_main, please feel free. 

No axe-grinding here, but if what I think of as a commodity Dell
($350, used, on Ebay) is "superfast" to Darren, I'm probably not the
best candidate to write sizing heuristics.

(Well, that, plus I digress into thinking about linker-set machinery
to automate a whole slew of small parameters, in some
reasonably-defined ordering.)
