I don't think so.  This happens no matter if accessing just one disk or both
at the same time.  Some examples: ripping a CD from the DVD drive (which is
attached to the other channel), rehashing files in xmule (using just one
disk), creating a large core dump for a program that crashes, unpacking
system sets (this time, reading from wd1 and writing to wd0)...
