This would appear to be a statement of opinion rather than fact --
"right" is pretty well subjective, even if it is the way things get
implemented.

What is so "right" about wedges, considering they don't cover all the
cases, either...?

I don't think there is a single "right" way to do this considering all
the hoops various other PROMs go through (Sun/SPARC, HP, Alpha) to divine
the information from a disk label (...or do the HP and Alpha defer that
to the second-level bootloader?)
