Except that on the Alpha, this seems to cause problems. I posted about
that recently in current-users/tech-pkg/port-alpha (Subject:
pth-1.4.1nb2 breaks gnumeric-0.75 and xchat? (1.5/Alpha)), and I filed
PR pkg/18217. There is a similar PR for Amiga (pkg/18236: pth with
syscall-hard hangs on NetBSD/amiga, maybe on m68k in general)

I just re-tried pth's test_misc with 1.6/Alpha and it still does not
work with --enable-syscall-hard (it does not even read its input).
