i think the idea is that your kernel config file be just a plain copy
of GENERIC and then say

	no pci*

at the bottom, which is much easier than commenting out the 80-odd
lines of pci stuff mixed throughout the file.  it means that your
kernel config could then just *include* GENERIC instead being a
locally maintained copy.  it makes life easier.
