If you are thinking of the abomination that is STREAMS (which are used
in Solaris & co.), I think that, from a programming point of view,
they are, without a doubt, the BIGGEST pain in the tuchus to work
with (if, indeed, one can be said to work with them).

For something that used to be REALLY simple with straight line
disciplines, it turned very convolved with STREAMS. TIOCSTI, in particular,
was a bitch to try to work with (and I needed it at the time!).
