but if people want the files in /dev to have different names, why on earth
would anyone in their right mind consider something as convoluted as 
changing the whole naming scheme, changing the kernel, the 
autoconfiguration, and throwing out conventions that a large part of the 
world might actually _like_, when all they have to do is rename the files
in /dev to be more pleasing? thats the whole reason we have device numbers!
the name of the file means nothing, it is a name!
please, whoever proposed these massive changes just to rename a few things
in /dev read the man pages for ln and mv!! 
sorry if this sounds like a flame, but this thread is getting pretty 
silly!
