Did they give a good reason, or are they just being silly?

Was it pointed out that the implementation they're relying upon is
Linux-specific and will have to be changed if Linux ever wants to
conform to standards?

(Sorry to jump in late on this, especially since I don't know much
about this particular issue, but it's irritating how frequently
outside folks seem to have imbecilic responses to common sense
changes like this, even when someone else has already done the
work... it'd be nice to know whether or not the Wine folks are
misinformed, just not getting it, or actively obstinate.)
