Let me respectfully disagree here.

The correct approach would be to use a random value with the first bit zero
(unicast) and the 2nd bit one (not globally unique) on the wire, that is
abcdef10:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX for us computer types that have those bits
backwards ;-)
