So I noticed on my pmax that I have more processes and file descriptors
than on my alpha. Hmm! Looking at the default maxusers for each arch
reveals:

	mvme68k 4
	sun3 4
	amiga 8
	arm26 8
	hpcmips 8
	luna68k 8
	news68k 8
	pc532 8
	vax 8
	x68k 8
	atari 16
	mac68k 16
	mipsco 16
	mmeye 16
	newsmips	16
	next68k 16
	alpha 32
	arc 32
	arm32 32
	bebox 32
	cobalt 32
	hp300 32
	i386-mp 32
	i386 32
	macppc 32
	ofppc 32
	prep 32
	sparc 32
	pmax 64

Listing the common CPU familes shows

	mvme68k	sun3 4
	amiga luna68k news68k x68k 8
	atari mac68k next68k 16
	hp300 32

	hpcmips 8
	mipsco newsmips 16
	arc cobalt 32
	pmax 64

	bebox macppc ofppc prep 32

Is there any rhyme or reason for the numbers chosen?

Simon.
