There was some discussion some time ago about building MI kernel
fp-emulation.
I think Jonathan Stone has been involved, and several others - you might
try to search trough mail archives and contact the respective people.

If the floating point emulation would be in kernel, userland
would not need any changes at all I think (I may be wrong, I'm
not a hw guy :)
