I'm using a P2-400 with Millenium 2 PCI, DMA IDE disc etc. I can
recreate the 'sucking performance' issue by running a compile (this
works both under X and not under X, but is easier to tell under X by
looking at the mouse pointer) and a fairly system-time heavy process
line ./configure.
