Sounds the same idea.  Last time I worked on a Sparc, it was SunOS 
3.1.4 or some such and my more recent experiences had nothing 
whatsoever with kernel configuration.

But I find it inconvenient, if fiendishly clever, that the bootstrap 
loader has to have some understanding of the filesystem before being 
able to get any work done :-)

I guess I'm just too retro...
