You don't.

If it's a SCSI device, then it'll automatically show up as a "cd" device.
If it's an ATAPI drive, it should also show up as a "cd" device.

The support for these devices is already in the kernel.

If it's some proprietary interface, say connected through some sound card
with a non-standard interface, then I think we don't support it.
