Of course it's not possible.   You can't *force* anybody to hack on
free software.   But if the API is the same, then when a diff comes in
for a FreeBSD driver that appears to make sense, it'll likely get
incorporated.   Likewise for a NetBSD driver.   This is a Big Win - it
avoids a *lot* of version drift and bookkeeping, which we're all
suffering from now.
