Have we even decided that we want "slices"?  I don't want to propagate MBR
braindamage to ports that don't have to deal with it..

I have other ideas on this subject, and it's completely orthogonal to
new dev_t's... so let's just drop the "slice" talk for now :-)

Per Torek's mail, we should probably be following a model more similar
to BSDI's...
