As a side comment to Erik's nice description about NTP showing
up bad h/w- it can also show up boot prom problems.

Sun's OBP 2.0 (through 2.3?) had a bug in POST where it scribbled
the maximum forward value into the calibration byte for the SGSThomson
NVRAM.
