Yes. That's one source of drift. Temperature variation is another.


But I thnk Erik is talking about drift due to jitter in the actual
sampling of the clock, due to unpredictable (and variable) interrupt
latency elsewhere in the system.

Perhaps, but not necessarily, the same interrupt latency that's biting
serial ports.
