The most recent NetBSD/alpha snapshot includes kernel core dump
support and a gdb which can properly read them (more or less; there
are a few problems with exception stack frames).

kernel core dump support went in a while earlier, but the logic to
read them wasn't all there until the latest snapshot, if i recall.
