I was asked by a friend on the XFree86 team to forward the following
on. The idea sounds sound, and co-operation like this is probably a
good thing.

Luke,

We have setup a working group on the XFree server to write a universal
PCI database for programs and operating systems. We have the people
from FreeBSD, Linux, and XFree, working towards having a universal PCI
user lib (sorta like libz), plus some stuff that will provide /dev/pci
for the kernel side that can do ioctl's on pci devices. Can you please
send the person most in touch with the PCI stuff on the kernel teams a
note asking him/her to join a mailing list so we can get this one
worked out.

They need to mail David Dawes <dawes@xfree86.org> to get on the PCI lib
mailing list (pci@xfree.org) so we can get a single PCI database for
all PCI capable operating system, instead of many people maintaining
their own separate copies.
