I have patches kicking around for a floppy diskette formatter on the
i386 port.

I'd like to get this functionality into the tree, but I suspect the
existing interface I have (lifted from FreeBSD) may not be adequate for
the other platforms supporting floppy diskettes. (A user-level program
chooses transfer speed, interleaving, cylinders, heads, tracks, gap
length, ..., all laid out perfectly for the the NEC 765 floppy disk
controller's format command).

If you know anything about the floppy disk hardware on non-i386
platforms and its formatting capabilities, perhaps we can talk to figure
out an appropriate interface for such support?
