DC: I (in peanut gallery software designer mode) see the solution to all
DC: of these problems taking a common shape.  Here's a sketch:

DC:  - pkgtools look at multiple db directories and present the user with
DC:    a consolidated view, perhaps in an analogous way that man(1) can
DC:    look in multiple places for the documentation installed by those
DC:    packages.

The only problem I see with this is what happens in case of a conflict?
